First Congregational Church of Long Beach was built in 1914. It is now a National registered Historical Landmark. The urban location of the church made a secure environment desirable in designing the new classroom and multi-purpose facilities. By pushing the addition to the edges of the property a courtyard was created, providing a haven for gathering and fellowship. The design was conceived to be both sympathetic and subservient to the historic Florentine Renaissance Architecture without imitating it.
