Early meetings with the Building Committee revealed that half of the committee desired a traditional church in form and materials, while the other half desired a contemporary solution and imagery which would “carry the Church into the next century.” A traditional closed form, steep gabled-roof, cruciform plan was developed and then bisected and splayed, in plan, from a point above the altar. A series of contemporary metal roofed triangles fan out from above the altar to connect the traditional halves, and are sloped to provide enhanced acoustics and clerestory windows for day lighting. A second phase Administration building houses two floors of staff over a basement Youth Room.
