St. Augustine High School Theater, San Diego, CA
The second project completed for St. Augustine High School included the significant renovation and adaptive re-use of an existing and revered gymnasium into a Performing Arts Centre. The phasing of the construction was planned to minimize disruption to and allow continued use of existing school operations. The Performing Arts and Media Center will have 400 seats, a full proscenium stage with adjacent Band/Music Room,, lighting, A/V and control booth and 2 lines of motorized light trusses over the house, and pipe grid overhead with 28 line-sets of rigging. The building also incorporates a digital media lab. This space is set up as a teaching space that can also function as a broadcast studio for Saint’s TV. It was also planned to serve as a graphic and video media support space for the adjacent performing arts spaces. The space is also envisioned to serve as a media recording space for the adjacent band facilities. Additionally, as part of this project there will also be new band rehearsal facilities, set shop, green room and dressing facilities. The Performing Arts and Media Centers will share a common lobby, which will act as a flexible space for pre-event functions, performances, and museum/ gallery events.
